Uncharitable: The Way we think about giving undermines the causes we love

11:20 am – 12:10 pm cst

Speaker

Dan Pallotta

Malini Rajput

Uncharitable deconstructs the double-standard between the nonprofit sector and the for-profit sector. It’s a provocative examination of the economic prison in which we have put nonprofits that undermines any hope of them solving large-scale problems. It’s about liberating the sector from anachronistic ideas meant for another age so that it can fulfill its true potential.

Advancing Racial Equity in Education

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm cst

In education, equity and diversity are sometimes used interchangeably, but they have some significant differences. Diversity seeks to increase representation of historically marginalized students, faculty and administrators. However, often it doesn’t focus on correcting the central issue: racial injustice. Equity aims to fix the systemic conditions that cause the exclusion of students of color in education.

A movement for racial equity must include an excellent and equitable public education for underserved students, including students of color and those from low-income backgrounds. A racial equity movement must also include actively listening to and working together with students and communities.

Through a moderated discussion and Q&A, this chat will explore the importance of advancing racial equity in education.
